Context
Graphic facilitation is an important tool whose aim is to help the world to have better conversations and, consequently, increase the value of relationships and collaborations. However, it is sometimes misinterpreted for “just a comic strip”, even though it has a much deeper and meaningful impact: highlighting patterns and providing immediate visual feedback to the speaker, helping the flow and quality of the conversation. This has led us to reflect on how to best describe what we do.

Process
After having published some ironic illustrations about our profession on a Facebook group targeted to graphic facilitators, we received many comments from our peers, stating that our experiences were actually very common. Thus, the desire to create and publish a collection of them.

Solution
A book (and a series of rewards for all our supporters) funded thanks to a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter, to explain what we do in a fun way. The Life of a Graphic Facilitator is a project of Housatonic Design Network with the precious collaboration of the designer and cartoonist Irene Coletto.
